Use Job Descriptions to Know the Skills Clients Are Looking For

Gift ImasuenL1 · 3 views

One powerful way to know what to learn as a VA is to study real job descriptions.

Don’t just guess.

Go to Upwork, LinkedIn, or other freelance/job platforms and search for the kind of role you want.

For example:

Virtual Assistant
Executive Assistant
Administrative Assistant
Medical VA
Social Media VA
Customer Support VA
Real Estate VA

Open job posts that look like the kind of work you want to do.

Then copy the job description and use ChatGPT to help you break it down.

You can ask:

“Explain this job description to me in simple English.”

“What skills do I need to do this job?”

“What tools do I need to learn for this role?”

“What tasks will I be expected to handle?”

This helps you understand what clients are really asking for.

Sometimes, a job description may look complicated because the client used tools or terms you don’t know yet. But when you break it down, you may realise that the task is something you can learn or even something you already understand.

This exercise also helps you avoid applying blindly.

When you understand the job description, your proposal becomes stronger because you know exactly what the client needs.

Simple assignment

Search for 5 job descriptions in your chosen VA niche.

Copy them into a Google Doc.

For each one, use ChatGPT to identify:

The main tasks
The required skills
The tools mentioned
The areas you still need to learn

This will give you a clearer learning plan.
