PostBefore You Choose a VA Niche, Learn These Foundational Skills
Before you rush into choosing a Virtual Assistant niche, first understand your foundation.
Foundational VA skills, also called General VA skills, are the basic skills that help you support businesses remotely.
They include work collaboration tools like Google office applications such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive and Google Forms; communication tools like Zoom, Slack and Google Meet; project management tools like Trello, Asana and Notion; online research, data entry, file organisation, basic customer relationship skills, basic social media platform knowledge, Canva, AI tools, professionalism and digital confidence.
No matter the niche you choose later, these skills will help you function better.
Imagine becoming an automation VA but struggling to send a Zoom link for a client meeting.
Or trying to get clients online but not understanding how basic social media platforms work.
If you are coming from a 9–5 background, some of these skills may already be familiar to you, especially if you have used computers, office tools, meeting tools, or task management tools.
But if you have not, learn and practise them first.
Build the foundation before choosing a niche.
